Faced with the threat of a possible eco-social collapse, trust in progress rooted in Enlightenment thought seems to be contrary to the air of modern times. Corine Pelluchon and Marta Segarra invite us to dig up the legacy of the Enlightenment, rethink it with a critical eye, and build a new humanism.

Based on Corine Pelluchon's book Les Lumières à l’Âge du Vivant (Éditions du Seuil, 2021) and Marta Segarra's Humanimales: abrir las fronteras de lo humano (Galaxia Gutenberg, 2022), this dialogue, moderated by philosophy professor Begonya Saez Tajafuerce, brings together two thinkers to reflect on the need to abolish the current order based on domination and hierarchy among species to propose a new one based on consideration, vulnerability, responsibility, and care— a world in which humans play a part but are not alone.
