Over the past several years, many creative works that have been released, whether in the form of books, series, films, or theatrical plays, articulate around the theme of collapse. The pandemic, climate crisis, and other war-like threats together have created a climate far from optimistic where the future is often presented in some state of decline or a collapse of civilisation. What does this dystopian imagination say about us and what political repercussions does it have? How can we counter catastrophic thought with visions and accounts that are positively engaged in today’s problems?

Sociologist Christine Hentschel and political scientist Mathias Thaler will discuss these issues with philosopher Daniel Gamper.
