The school institution shelters our erudite dreams: the ideal of personal and civic growth, the acquisition of knowledge, intellectual awakening, the hope for social progress. Without education, we cannot understand the major social and political changes of these past centuries. However, today education seems to be in crisis in many places around the world. What should be taught at school given our complex societies? What role should teachers play? What remains of the ideal of school as an emancipatory institution? What faith can we put in its educational power?
These questions will be discussed by sociologist Aina Tarabina, philosopher Joan-Carles Mèlich, and Lia Segarra, teacher and head of school, in a conversation led by journalist Diana Silva.
