Varda’s work has inspired film makers from all ranges of genres, backgrounds, and schools, even creators who position themselves in opposition to her cinematic language but still feel as though they are the heirs of her acts of creative freedom. Varda’s influence goes far beyond form: her rebuttal of classifications and drive to find her own voice are a map of principles that many have adopted as their own.
In this conversation moderated by Mariona Borrull, film makers Carla Simón and Audrey Diwan defend the audacity, boldness, and tenacity of the Varda spirit as compasses that have guided their cinematic exploration. We will close the Biennial by celebrating Varda’s legacy and its mark on the vitality of film and contemporary art creation in a closing party held within the framework of the exhibition at CCCB Agnès Varda.
