Audrey Diwan

Director

Audrey Diwan is a French director of Lebanese origin and winner of the Golden Lion Award at the Venice Film Festival for her film Happening, an adaptation of Annie Ernaux’s memoir Happening (2002) about her illegal abortion in the 1960s. As a scriptwriter, Audrey Diwan has authored a series of texts for Cédric Jimenez (La French / Conexión Marsella, 2014; BAC Nord / The Stronghold, 2020) and has worked with the directors Teddy Lussi Modeste, Gilles Lellouche, and Valérie Donzelli. She has published several books including La fabrication d’un mensonge and De l’autre côté de l’été. Her work as a director expresses a highly personal and intimate point of view. In 2024, her third film Emmanuelle opened the San Sebastian Film Festival. In this film, she adapts the worlds created by the writer Emmanuelle Arsan, and presents an exploration of pleasure in the post-#MeToo era.
