Avant-guard art has always been full of tension. It emerged from the erudite ideals of progress and renewal, but mistrusts rationality and has sought to correct the linear understanding of history. In the figure of Antoni Tàpies, a major artist from the second half of the 20th century, we find these two poles: a public voice of a political nature and, at the same time, an interest in mystery, spiritual traditions, and the dissolution of the self.

In commemoration of his 100th birthday, artists Perejaume and David Bestué and curator and researcher Joana Hurtado will engage in a conversation led by Rita Roig about his legacy and the ambivalence in his work, which today is perhaps more relevant than ever.
