Joan-Carles Mèlich

Philosopher and professor

Native of Barcelona (1961), he has a degree in Philosophy and a PhD in Philosophy and Literature from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. He is currently a Full Professor of Philosophy of Education at this same university. He has published various works on the subjects of anthropology, ethics, and education. Contrary to the metaphysical tradition, his line of thought— rooted in Greek tragedy and contemporary novels and theatre— is a philosophy of finitude (or of vulnerability, contingency, and fragility) which gives rise to ethics of compassion and a pedagogy focused on memory.
