Modern states are based on the existence of equal rights for all citizens, but at the same time they respond to specific political and cultural traditions that do not belong to everyone. In matters of identity, language or religion, is it possible for the state to be neutral? On the other hand, if a state claims neutrality, does it really include all citizens, and could it not be that the claim to neutrality actually conceals the privilege of one group?
In a conversation led by sociologist Natàlia Cantó, and from very different theoretical perspectives, philosophers Carles Llinàs and Oriol Farrés will debate this fundamental question of the relationship between citizens and the state.
