Rethinking social bonding in an open, diverse and changing world

The profound and accelerated changes in the forms of social interaction force us to rethink classic concepts such as social cohesion. Territorial mobility, social networks and the ease of global exchanges in popular culture, among others, have given rise to societies in which, paradoxically, it seems increasingly difficult to share common social and cultural links while, at the same time, intense but fragmented group interactions multiply.
For all these reasons, it is necessary to reflect on the disappearance of the old mechanisms that created the bonds of belonging and on the nature of the new bonds and their ethical consistency and social efficacy.
The activity will be moderated by the sociologist and writer Salvador Cardús, with the participation of the anthropologist Josepa Cucó, the geographer Oriol Nel·lo and the sociologist Avi Astor. It will be held in the Sala Prat de la Riba at the Institute of Catalan Studies.
