Citizenship and expert voices take to the squares once again. The Biennial begins!
The 2022 Biennial of Thought will once again fill the public space with civic debate, with critical and shared exploration of the major issues of global current affairs. And it does so unfetter, celebrating open access after a pandemic yet successful 2020 edition.
This full return to face-to-face attendance is propelled by an extensive, varied and restless programme, which makes local talent visible and combines it with a group of first-rate international participants from all over the world.
The analysis of the problems of today's democratic systems, the exploration of the factors that intervene in the construction of today's and tomorrow's cities and a critical look at the incessant technological change that shapes our lives are some of the axes that have been taken into account when designing the programme. The conviction of the full validity of culture as a catalyst for these debates is also a protagonist of this Biennial, with creators and intellectuals who bring us closer to diverse realities and with special attention to the cultural space that Barcelona shares with Palma and Valencia, partner cities in this year's edition.
With the aim of ensuring that these issues are not restricted to the academic sphere or remain mere background noise in the mass media, the Biennial is helping to bring them to the squares, where citizens can listen to the various expert voices but also express their own. Six days of joint reflection with debates, conversations, dramatised readings, philosophical walks and other hybrid formats which, in the end, must also be a call to action: thought leads the movement.
